ISL6116CB-T is a hot-swap controller that provides current-sharing and load-management capacity for systems requiring enhanced current sources. It is an a Voltage-mode Hot-Swap Controller specifically designed to ensure system-level hot-pluggable operation by controlling the inrush current and providing complete current-limiting protection to the critical loads in the system. In addition to controlling the inrush current, the ISL6116CB-T allows sharing of load current among several hot-swappable power rails.The ISL6116CB-T allows the system to support both live insertion and hot-swapping of power rails with up to 150 W of power with currents of up to 13A. The device features an integrated comparator that monitors the local load current and compares it to a reference voltage. It then regulates the local power rail current such that each rail shares an equal amount of load current. Depending on the initial current, the reference voltage can be set via external resistors.The ISL6116CB-T offers an overcurrent fault indication and an enable output which can be used to enable external pass device(s). The enable output is a logic output that is active high and its state is dependent on the input signals and the current limit threshold. The enable output is a latched output, meaning that it will stay in the latched state until it is reset. The device then signals the presence of an overcurrent fault, which can be detected by the system controller and is also latched.In addition to current protection, the ISL6116CB-T also offers overvoltage and undervoltage protection. It is capable of providing a range of protections from 12 V to 28 V. Overvoltage protection is triggered when the hot-swappable supply rail exceeds the predetermined threshold. The device offers the flexibility to choose between single-shot or latched modes in order to provide fast response to overtemperature and protect the system from damage.The ISL6116CB-T also features adjustable slew-rate control to reduce the amount of inrush current on insertion. By setting suitable time constants, the user can precisely define the ramp time at which the rail voltage rises on insertion. This way, the peak inrush current can be kept at a minimum.The ISL6116CB-T is offered in a 5 x 5 mm 20-lead QFN package and is specified from -40°C to +105°C. It is ideal for a wide range of applications, including hot-swappable desktop commodity power rails, telecom/datacom power systems, telecom/datacom system cabinets, and distributed power systems.
