The ISL6121EVAL1 evaluation board provides a platform for quick prototyping and evaluation of the ISL6121 synchronous buck converter with the Intel FIVR voltage regulator. The board enables each block (input, output, feedback, etc.) to be easily tested and evaluated in a real-world environment to provide a full picture of its application capabilities. The ISL6121EVAL1 board is designed to evaluate the ISL6121 6A synchronous buck converter with the Intel FIVR voltage regulation platform. The converter is designed to operate at a switching frequency of up to 1.25MHz. The evaluation board provides a complete design and development platform for evaluating the ISL6121 synchronous buck converter in multiple voltage regulation applications, as well as demonstrating its performance.
The evaluation board contains the ISL6121 synchronous buck controller, which enables the regulator to accurately regulate the output voltage with a ±0.5% accuracy. The board contains a set of external components to configure the regulator for different output voltages and operating conditions. The evaluation board has a wide input operating voltage range of 5V to user selectable 28V, and an adjustable output voltage range of 0.8V to 5V. With the eZ-Flex Constant On-Time (COT) control architecture, the ISL6121 can reach up to 94% efficiency even at light load current conditions.
The evaluation board comes with an external control and monitoring interface to provide convenient, easy to use features such as programming of the output voltage, feedback comparison, monitoring of output voltage and current, thermal protection, and programming of other regulator parameters. The interface includes an LCD display, push buttons, and other buttons or variables. The interface is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy for users to securely program and monitor the regulator performance.
The ISL6121EVAL1 board uses a switched-mode architecture to enable high efficiency operation. The board uses a single-stage synchronous buck regulator with an internal ESR filter, which provides excellent line and load regulation over a wide operating range, low output ripple, high reliability, and good thermal performance. The board includes an integrated power stage consisting of a boot diode (CRY), a low-output capacitor (Cou) and an internal ESR filter (FER) to support a wide range of output loads from 0 to 8A.
The board also offers 11 selectable over-temperature protection levels and 10 selectable undervoltage lockout (UVLO) levels to ensure top-level performance. The integrated power stage\'s high power density allows the board to provide excellent power density and high efficiency operation. The board also comes with a temperature sensing component which helps to protect the regulator from over temperature conditions.
