The ISL6146AFRZ-TK is an ultra-low ESR dual-channel buck regulator IC (R-DCSB) from Intersil with high efficiency over a wide range of load conditions. It has built-in features such as programmable dynamic voltage scaling, soft start, and adjustable switching frequency and current limit.The OR-controller in the ISL6146AFRZ-TK senses a difference in output voltage between two channels and combines the channels to obtain a common output voltage. This feature helps to reduce output voltage ripples, which could otherwise lead to instability in the system. The integrated ideal diode in the IC is used to eliminate the need for external diodes in parallel with the output MOSFETs, reducing board space and improving efficiency. The controllerless ideal diode works by controlling the current flow from one of the channels automatically switching it off when the other channel is supplying power. This reduces power dissipation in power conversion stages.The ISL6146AFRZ-TK also has an integrated high-side MOSFET which helps in clearing the output channel capacitors when the system is powered down. This removes residual charge in the capacitors and prevents the system from behaving erratically during the power up phase.
