The ISL61853GIRZ is a hot swap controller from Intersil Corporation. It is a highly integrated power management integrated circuit (PMIC) specifically designed for the hot swap control of up to 6 monitored and controlled rails in high performance Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications.

The ISL61853GIRZ is a single-chip hot swap controller and is built on Intersil Corporation’s highly advanced, 65nm process. The hot swap controller uses an integrated, low-power, dual-channel, low-noise LDO and dynamic current limit system along with Intersil’s advanced PSPMTM (Programmable Smart Power Management) to adjust power management parameters in real time. With 20V maximum rail monitoring at−40°C to105°C and 0.75V minimum start-up voltage, the device can easily accommodate a wide range of applications.

The ISL61853GIRZ features an integrated dual-channel low-noise voltage regulator and dynamic current limit system, enabling a heavy load to be safely and quickly added to a system. It is a high integration hot swap controller, has ungated active high on/off pins for logic level control of hot-swap connection, status monitoring and capabilities to minitor rail voltage, current, temperature and other system parameters.

The ISL61853GIRZ is designed to provide reliable hot-swapping, with programmable soft start, under-voltage lockout and fault event reporting. It is also capable of providing programmable over temperature, over current, and over-voltage protection, ensuring safe and reliable hot-swapping. The hot-swapping features are integrated with the ability to detect and monitor up to 6 externally-connected power rails.

The ISL61853GIRZ also offers programmable current limit and over-current fault protection for maximum flexibility. The current limit can be programmed for different rails, protecting the system from over-current events. Additionally, the device supports multiple pulse-width modulation (PWM) frequency selection and a crystal-less 10Mhz PWM oscillator mode to reduce clock supply noise.

The ISL61853GIRZ is suitable for providing effective hot-swap control in a range of architectures, including mid- to high-powered Power over Ethernet (PoE) systems.
