ISL6366IRZ is a synchronous buck voltage regulator IC with integrated power switching MOSFETs from Intersil Corp. The device operates from 4.5V to 14V and provides up to 15A of continuous output current. The device is designed to be used in high-power applications such as telecommunications, computer systems and industrial applications. Working Principle

The ISL6366IRZ is a synchronous buck voltage regulator with integrated power MOSFETs. The device provides a wide output voltage range from 0.6V to 15V with a maximum output current of 15A and a maximum duty cycle of 92%. The device is designed to provide a very low output voltage ripple and low output noise. The device also features an internal frequency compensation circuit and a synchronization bandwidth of 500kHz. The device includes an integrated VOUT voltage reference, a POR (Power-On Reset) circuit and various other devices to provides full protection against over-current, over temperature and short circuit conditions.

The ISL6366IRZ operates in either continuous conduction mode (CCM) or discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) depending on the load. In CCM, the inductor current is continuously sensing and controlling the output voltage. In DCM, the inductor current is sensed and the device switches in fast mode to keep the output voltage regulated. In both modes, the voltage regulator is able to maintain a tight regulation.

The ISL6366IRZ also includes a synchronization feature for fixed frequency operation. This feature allows the output voltage to remain regulated over varying input and output voltages. Additionally, the device also includes a built-in soft start circuit to reduce inrush current at power up. The device also includes thermal foldback protection, which reduces the output current at high temperatures and improves the device reliability.
