ISL6402AIRZ is a combination linear-switching voltage regulator (L-SVR) that provides a fully integrated and high-efficiency voltage regulation solution. It provides an acceptable combination of output current, input voltage range and excellent transient response. It has earned the industries highest marks for providing extended performance capabilities and reliability. The device is used to regulate a variety of DC and AC voltage applications.
Application Field
The ISL6402AIRZ is primarily used in system power management applications requiring current and voltage regulation such as power conversion, power supply sequencing, point-of-load regulation, battery charging and many other applications requiring a combination linear-switching voltage regulator. It is suitable for notebook computer motherboards, graphics cards, digital media players, automotive systems and communications systems, as well as other applications requiring a combination linear-switching voltage regulator.Apart from the mentioned above, the device is suitable for any application needing current-limited high-current power supplies, and any application requiring a combination linear-switching voltage regulator.Working Principle
The ISL6402AIRZ works by using the linear regulator using its reference signal to maintain the output voltage and then the advanced switching regulator section enables it to compensate for current changes or load pulsing which otherwise would not be possible with a standard linear regulator. It contains voltage and current sensing circuitry for feed-forward-based control.The device features three modes of operation as follows:- Continuous Mode: In this mode the breakdown voltage of the P-channel MOSFET is higher than that of the N-channel MOSFET and so the P-channel MOSFET is always on.
- Discontinuous Mode: In this mode the breakdown voltage of the N-channel MOSFET is higher than that of the P-channel MOSFET and so the N-channel MOSFET is always on.
- Burst Mode: In this mode both MOSFETs operate in a similar fashion and are triggered off as the load current decreases. The MOSFETs are triggered off and the device enters an efficiency saving mode.
