The ISL6442IA-TK is a highly advanced and versatile low noise buck converter with low EMI, high power density, high efficiency and excellent transient response, making it ideal for a wide range of applications including servers, storage, switches and routers, smartphones, tablet computers, embedded applications, network cards, USB hubs, video game consoles, and USB-C PD (Power Delivery) applications. The ISL6442IA-TK can provide high output current (2.5A) step-down regulator output.

The ISL6442IA-TK belongs to the PMIC (Power Management IC) family of voltage regulators. It is a Linear plus Switching regulator that efficiently converts an input voltage of 3V to 5.5V to provide a well regulated output of 1.5V to 5V, with a maximum output current of 2.5A.

The ISL6442IA-TK voltage regulator uses an inductor-based synchronous buck DC-DC regulator circuit to produce a well regulated output voltage. It operates with a low operating current and speeds up the transient response with a high-level soft-start feature. The switch current limit of the regulator is adjustable to provide a wide range of adjustable output current.

The ISL6442IA-TK has three modes of operation: voltage-mode, fixed frequency and external clock synchronization. In voltage-mode, the regulator will track the output voltage and adjust the duty cycle of the regulator as needed to maintain the output voltage. In fixed-frequency mode, the output voltage is maintained by keeping the switching frequency of the regulator constant. Synchronization mode allows the switching frequency of the regulator to be synchronized with an external clock, allowing the output voltage to be fine tuned.

The ISL6442IA-TK also has a wide range of protection features including over temperature protection, under voltage lockout and outputs in-rush current limiting. It also has an integrated output discharge circuit which quickly discharges the output if the voltage falls below the minimum voltage level. The device also has a thermal shutdown feature which shuts down the regulator if the temperature of the device exceeds the maximum operating temperature.
