The ISL8130IAZ is a DC/DC switching controller suitable for a wide range of applications. It is a 2-phase step-down DC/DC converter for the input voltage up to the range of 6 to about 24V and the output voltage range of 0.8 to 5.5V. It can deliver up to 30A current. With its 4MHz of switching frequency, it is able to deliver higher output current and power efficiency while keeping the small internal component size. The built-in Short-Circuit Protection (SCP), Over-Voltage Protection (OVP), and Temperature Protection (TP) features make the ISL8130IAZ a great choice for system level solutions.
ISL8130IAZ has two operating modes to deliver the output voltage. The under-voltage lock-out circuit prevents the gate drive output lower than the safe voltage. The oscillator circuits the switching frequency of the converter, which is set by the external resistor and capacitor. The duty cycle control block contains the drivers, voltage feedback comparator and logic circuitry. The error amplifier amplifies the voltage difference between the output voltage and the reference voltage. The compensation network is used to optimize the frequency and phase margin and damping of the converter. The sense resistor is used to detect the output current and provide current limit signal to the internal feedback loop.
The ISL8130IAZ provides an advanced feature of power saving mode. In this mode, the controller shuts down the switching behavior and minimize the input/output voltage drops. When the load current is below a certain threshold, the chip will enter the power saving mode and reduce the quiescent current consumption. This mode is effective in providing maximum power savings in low power applications.
