The ISL8394IB-T is an extremely low-voltage, low-current rail-to-rail CMOS analog multiplexer/demultiplexer switch which features high-bandwidth, low-distortion, low-noise and low-cross-talk performance. It is designed for applications in which maximum control of analog signals is mandatory. The ISL8394IB-T has very wide supply operating range (1.8V to 5.5V, single supply) and an input/output common-mode range, which extends to ground (Vss) even at extremely low supply voltage.
ISL8394IB-T uses CMOS technology in order to give very low On-resistance and fast settling times, while still delivering excellent CMR performance. This ideal analog switch, which is optimized for AC operation, provides users with ultimate control of analog signals. Its low current consumption and wide supply operating range make it an ideal choice for battery-operated systems, while its accurate control of analog signals is especially helpful when precision control is desired. ISL8394IB-T can be configured as a 32-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer with ideal switching features.
Application Field
ISL8394IB-T is widely used in audio applications, such as audio mixers, audio distributors, and even telecommunications systems. Due to its wide range of input and output common modes, it can also be used in power amplification applications. Working Principle
ISL8394IB-T has a simple mechanism. It has two independent sets of 32 CMOS analog multiplexers/demultiplexers, with the left side (A side) of the device handling the multiplexer (MUX) section and the right side (B side) handling the demultiplexer (DEMUX). The MUX section allows users to connect up to 32 different inputs to four separate outputs, while the DEMUX section allows users to connect up to four different inputs to 32 separate outputs.
The multiplexer/demultiplexer switches are controlled by three Digital Select (SELA, SELB and SELC) inputs that configure either the Multiplexer or the Demultiplexer functions. These inputs are connected to a CMOS multiplexer using an internal regular tree that controls the switching action of the MUX and DEMUX sections. The separate select inputs are then logically combined using an AND-OR tree into an address that controls the switching action of ISL8394IB-T.
The device is also designed for very low power consumption. The output of the switch can be programmed to be high impedance when disabled, which significantly reduces unscheduled current consumption (off-state leakage current). The device further includes two optional low-power standby states: STANDBY A and STANDBY B. The optional STANDBY A state reduces power consumption and currents in the switching circuit. The optional STANDBY B state reduces the current-to-ground to less than 1ua.
Overall, ISL8394IB-T is an ideal solution for applications requiring precise switching, high frequency performance, very low voltage operation and low power consumption.
