ISL9222AIRTZ-T

The ISL9222AIRTZ-T is a high-efficiency battery charging solution for single-cell Li-ion and Li-ion polymer batteries in space-constrained applications. It combines a full complement of safety and advanced monitoring features in a small surface-mount package. The ISL9222AIRTZ-T has been designed as an optimal single-cell charging solution for applications in a wide variety of end products including, but not limited to, automotive, consumer and industrial applications. The ISL9222AIRTZ-T is capable of operating in constant voltage (CV) or constant current (CC) mode and supports the charging of a single Li-ion or Li-ion polymer cell that is discharged down to 0V.

The ISL9222AIRTZ-T offers a full lineup of safety features to manage a variety of charging circumstances, including overcharging, overdischarging, overcurrent and thermal monitoring. All safety features are implemented as I2C controlled switches, which eliminates the need for external PWM inputs. The ISL9222AIRTZ-T also supports a wide range of charging profiles for any Li-ion or Li-ion polymer battery, including a programmable pre-conditioning algorithm that adjusts the system parameters as needed to maximize the cell’s charge/discharge cycle life. The ISL9222AIRTZ-T also supports a wide temperature range, which ensures a consistent charging performance in low- temperature environments.

The ISL9222AIRTZ-T utilizes a regulated charge-pump-based architecture that enables it to support a wide range of input supply voltages and offers a high degree of efficiency and flexibility. The ISL9222AIRTZ-T incorporates an input voltage range of 4.5V to 28V, which provides the flexibility to handle various power sources (USB, AC/DC adapters, etc.) and also allows for constant current charging of a wide range of Li-ion or Li-ion polymer cells. The ISL9222AIRTZ-T also supports a wide output voltage range of 4.2V to 5.5V, which allows it to charge a wide variety of Li-ion or Li-ion polymer cells.

The ISL9222AIRTZ-T incorporates current-sense resistors to sense input and output currents, which enables accurate charging and monitoring of the system. The ISL9222AIRTZ-T also features I2C control signals, a Power Good (PG) output, an enabled/disable control pin, and a charging-current-control pin, which offer flexibility in system design. Additionally, the ISL9222AIRTZ-T includes dual thermal-protection circuitries; one for the input side and one for the output side. The output-side thermal protection circuitry limits the maximum output current and voltage when sustained high-power dissipation is detected.
