1. Describe

The ISO35TDWR is an isolated differential line transceiver with an integrated oscillator output that supplies the primary voltage to the isolation transformer. The device is a full-duplex differential line transceiver for RS-485 and RS-422 applications and can be easily operated by connecting pin 11 to pin 14 and pin 12 to pin 13 It is configured as half duplex. These devices are ideal for long transmission lines because the ground return is broken to allow a larger common-mode voltage range. The device's symmetrical isolation barrier has been tested to provide 4242VPK of isolation for 60 seconds per VDE between the bus transceiver and the logic level interface. Any wired I/O can be affected by electrical noise transients from various sources. If these noise transients are of sufficient magnitude and duration, they can damage the transceiver and/or nearby sensitive circuitry. The ISO35TDWR can significantly reduce the risk of data corruption and damage to expensive control circuits. The ISO35TDWR has an operating temperature range of –40°C to 85°C.

6. Application Information

The ISO35TDWR is a full-duplex RS-485 transceiver commonly used for asynchronous data transfer. A full-duplex implementation requires two signal pairs (quad-wire) and allows each node to transmit data on one pair while receiving data on the other pair. To eliminate line reflections, each cable end is terminated with a terminating resistor R(T) whose value matches the characteristic impedance Z0 of the cable. This method, called parallel termination, allows for higher data rates over longer cable lengths.
