Introduction to IXBOD1-30RD IXBOD1-30RD is a latest digital, short form low-power, ultra-low profile TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors) discovered by Intersil. It is a part of Intersils mixed-technology family of TVSs and is an innovative protection solution designed for the surge protection of sensitive ICs and applications. It provides an ultra-low profile protection that fits into cramped areas where few other components can fit.Application Field The IXBOD1-30RD is a high-performance device rendering the ideal solution for the surge protection of sensitive ICs and applications such as logic circuits, systems, and process control devices. Proper grounding measures should also be taken to ensure that the device is not exposed to higher than normal electrical transients.Working Principle The IXBOD1-30RD employs a multi-stage (MOSFET-base) clamping circuit to ensure protection. When transient voltage is applied, the clamping circuit configuration will immediately begin conducting current and dissipating excess energy. When the transient voltage reaches a predetermined limit point, the MOSFET-base switch is activated, allowing the lower power portion of the MOSFET-base circuit to absorb the remaining energy. This provides a soft breakover for the device, allowing it to remain in the low-power mode after a transient voltage event. The device is then able to block any further signals above the clamp limit, preventing damage.
