Thyristors are the most popular and commonly used switching devices in the modern power electronics industry. They offer fast, precise switching of AC and DC currents, and can be used for a wide variety of applications, from basic switching to complex and sophisticated control systems. A type of thyristor is the K2201G, which is a highly advanced thyristor used for controlling both AC and DC as well as regulating the required peak current in a circuit.

The K2201G, or three-quadrant TRIAC, is a type of thyristor characterized by its ability to switch AC currents in both directions. When the voltage applied to the terminals is greater than the voltage of the diode, the diode is turned off, thereby preventing further current from flowing.

Instead, the terminals are connected via a coil and the current can be controlled by adjusting the voltage across the coil. Unlike DIACs, SIDACs can be used to control both AC and DC currents.
