KIT34712EPEVBE is a high performance, mid-voltage step-down evaluation board from Texas Instruments. The board is designed to evaluate the performance of the company’s TPS43020EVM-135, a fixed-frequency single-phase synchronous buck converter. This control IC operates over a wide input voltage range and its output voltage can be precisely regulated from 0.6V to 10.5V. The board comes with an onboard oscilloscope and voltage probes for easy measurement of output voltage and current levels.This evaluation board’s main application is in high power DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS designs. The board has an input voltage range of 36.2V to 72V, and it can deliver a maximum output current of 10 Amps given a proper heatsink. The input to output efficiency of the board is typically over 95%, making it well suited for use in applications such as industrial power supplies, LED lighting, telecom, and networking systems.The TPS43020EVM-135 integrated circuit used in the KIT34712EPEVBE evaluation board utilizes an advanced current-mode control architecture for improved load and line transient response. With this architecture, the converter can support wide input voltage range operation, selectable burst-mode operation, and tight output voltage capacitive-load regulation. It also operates in a wide ambient temperature range, including temperatures as low as -40 to +85°C.The control loop of the KIT34712EPEVBE evaluation board is set for hysteretic pulse-width modulation (PWM). This maximizes the converter’s efficiency while minimizing output ripple. The converter’s frequency is selectable between 65kHz and 500kHz. It also features an adjustable frequency spread-spectrum mode that reduces EMI by spreading the switching frequency over a predetermined frequency range.The KIT34712EPEVBE evaluation board works in conjunction with the TPS43020EVM-135 converter IC. In terms of hardware, the board includes all of the components necessary to build a complete synchronous buck converter, including the inductor, capacitor, output load resistors, and all of the necessary connectors and pin headers for easy connection to external equipment.
