The KSZ8463MLI-EVAL board from Microchip Technology Inc. serves as an evaluation and demonstration board and kit for the users. It provides prototyping and evaluation platform for the users to understand the operation of the particular device. It has various features for both evaluation and prototyping such as active interface for test points, connectors, switches and more.

Microchip Technology Inc. has developed the KSZ8463MLI-EVAL board with the KSZ8463 Ethernet PHY device. This board is designed to demo the operation of the device. The board includes an RJ45 connector which enables 10/100Mbit/s Full/Half-Duplex automatic link negotiation. The board also has a rotary switch for selecting the test type which consists of comparison test, regression test and internal function tests. The board also supports enabling or disabling the loopback mode.

The board also has two LEDs, an LED for indicating the link status and another LED for indicating the speed of the link. The link status LED can be used for reverification of the link and the speed LED can be used to check the speed of the Ethernet connection. Additionally, the board has a power LED and a reset switch to reset the board.

The board also provides support for operating temperature ranging from -20° Celsius to 85° Celsius. This board also includes a POWER JACK header which provides support for an external die package of 1.5 mm. This board supports voltage ranging from 1.8V to 3.3V DC.

The KSZ8463MLI-EVAL board is built with a 64-pin LQFP package of the device encased in a black plastic package. This board also includes a 3V3 regulator for drawing power from a DC power regulator. The board layout is provided with 2cm x 2cm physical dimensions with 0.5/1mm grid and 1.5mm via drill.

In terms of working principle, the KSZ8463MLI-EVAL board operates by communicating with the device via the UART interface. This board can be interfaced with the UART connection or can be connected to the PC via a serial cable. The UART connection is highly compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac OS platforms. When the board is connected with the device, the UART interface sends a command to the device which performs a specific operation considering the parameter sent through the interface.

Once the device performs the requested operation, it sends back an acknowledgement to the board indicating that it has completed performing the specified task. This board can be used to evaluate and demonstrate the working of the KSZ8463 Ethernet PHY device.
