General Working Principle
KSZ8995FQI has a Dual-Management Port Interface that connects the IC to a host processor or supporting controller. This DM Port Hardware interface is used to control the various access layer parameters of the IEEE802.3 Network for embedded Ethernet applications that require high traffic management capabilities. Additionally, it does not have the large overhead associated with other solutions based on a standard controller. The DM Port supports 2 independent ports, with each having the capability to configure the traffic classification protocols and the ability to support local or remote management. The specific configuration settings are programmed using the Management Control Registers, which are accessible through the DM Port.
Furthermore, with the integration of the transceiver, it provides the user with the flexibility of using lower cost transceivers without sacrificing overall performance. The transceiver has the ability to support several protocols such as 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T, and 10GBASE-T. It also has an integrated PHY-Layer Clock Synthesizer with a servo-loop capable of providing clock rates of up to 1.6GHz. This allows a higher data rate while reducing system complexity and cost.
