The KSZ9021GN-EVAL is a development and evaluation board for use with the KSZ9021 10/100/1000 transmit/receive low power, single-port, Ethernet transciever from Microchip. It allows developers to conveniently evaluate the features and performance of the KSZ9021 using the evaluation board and software. The board is also designed for prototyping designs for applications such as OEM devices, PCMCIA cards and TCP/IP controllers.
The KSZ9021GN-EVAL evaluation board provides connections for the Microchip 10/100/1000 Transceiver to be connected to a PC, router, hub, or switch. It also has connection points for external PHY devices and any other required power. The board also provides connections for commonly used LEDs to indicate link status and power level of the transceiver.
Once connected, the developers can use the integrated evaluation software to evaluate the device features and determine the applicability of the KSZ9021 transceiver to their product’s requirements. Through the evaluation board and software, developers can easily monitor data flow, test the range and rate of transmit/receive, and systematically test the stability of the transceiver with different data lengths and rates. The evaluation software offers an array of resources to view the performance parameters of different transceivers under different conditions or environments.
The KSZ9021 eval board’s performance parameters can also be validated against general Ethernet standards. The evaluation board comes with on-board 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX RJ-45 jacks for fast and easy network connectivity. Additionally, the board supports both MDI and MDIX modes on primary networks and supports 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-negotiation capability. The development board also supports loopback testing capabilities for both PHY and MAC level.
The board comes with software which supports both Windows and Linux operating systems. The evaluation software offers intuitive and comprehensive graphical user interface (GUI) displaying the data rate, link status, collision rate, and other parametric performance data of the used transceiver. The software also allows the developer to view the transceiver’s status and performance as the host system accesses the network in various ways. Additionally, the developer can gain further insight into the performance of the transceiver with the aid of useful diagnostics provided in the software.
The KSZ9021GN-EVAL development and evaluation board is a low-cost, field-proven, and efficient evaluation option for users of the KSZ9021 10/100/1000 transmit/receive low power, single-port, Ethernet transceiver. In addition to simplifying network connectivity, the board offers convenient evaluation capability necessary for debugging, verifying, and testing development projects.
