KSZ9021GNI Application Field and Working Principle
The KSZ9021GNI is an advanced, low-power, high-performance single port Physical Layer Transceiver (PHY). It is designed to provide economical 10-BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 100BASE-T2, and 1000BASE-T over Cat 5 UTP cable, to support both full and half-duplex operation. Additionally, the KSZ9021GNI supports one enhanced internal Digital Signal Stage (DSS) for built-in cable diagnostic feature. All internal logic is provided for 100BASE-T and 1000BASE-T autosensing and configuration. The KSZ9021GNI also supports Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) and Network Alive Traffic Controls (ATC).
The KSZ9021GNI has a Media Access Controller (MAC) interface which allows it to interoperate with any MAC device. This makes it an ideal solution for networking applications such as Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) over IP, rural broadband and Fiber-to-the-Subscriber (FTTS) networks. Its unique design allows for easy integration with an existing Ethernet infrastructure, making it an ideal solution for inexpensive and efficient networking in both corporate networks and residential deployments.

Working principle:
The KSZ9021GNI operates in two integrated modes: a PHY mode and a MAC mode. In PHY mode, the device is responsible for establishing an Ethernet connection between two nodes. This is achieved by performing the physical layer operations, including data encoding, symbol detection, and carrier sense. In MAC mode, the device is responsible for transmitting, receiving, and routing Ethernet traffic between two nodes using either a switch or a router. This is accomplished by maintaining a MAC address table which stores the relevant information for each node.
In addition, the KSZ9021GNI supports enhanced functionality such as Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) and Network Alive Traffic Controls (ATC).
