The latter is a binary code where ones and zeros are represented as extended (high) and short (low) intervals, respectively. The baseband channel includes physical coding sublayer (PCS) and physical medium attachment (PMA) functions. The PCS layer performs the encoding, scrambling and decoding of the transmitted data while the PMA layer provides the necessary physical layer protocol such as k0-k4, 10BASE-T, and 100BASE-TX. The Receiver performs PAM5/6 recovery, 8-bit NRZ/NRZI decoding, symbol synchronization, and derandomization.
