L2004D5TP application field and working principle
L2004D5TP is a high-performance, low-power consumption TRIAC, belonging to the family of thyristors. It can be used in AC power control applications, such as domestic appliances and lighting control.
The TRIAC is the three terminal four-layer device composed of two PN junctions and two SCRs, which is reverse conductive at the first and third region. The two SCRs are set in two anti-parallel directions, enabling the device to control the current flowing in both directions.The three terminals are Gate, Anode, and Cathode. For the L2004D5TP, the Gate terminal has a voltage limitation of +/- 10V and it is triggered by the logic signals from the system. The operational voltage range from 11V to 400V AC, and the special model can support a voltage range up to 1000V. The Ramp-up and Ramp-down current time can be set for each application, which is typically 200μs to 2000μs.
The working principle of L2004D5TP is quite simple. When the Gate voltage is triggered, the Gate terminal injects a small amount of electrons or holes. This injection makes the gate-cathode junction forward biased, which starts the conduction of the TRIAC device. The conduction between Anode and Cathode is proportional with the current flow of the device, which is usually referred to Ih \'Holding Current\' and Im \'Maximal Trigger Current\'. The Ih parameter is to decide how much the current flow through after the voltage is turned on, while Im is the current flowing when the device is triggered. The L2004D5TP features high Ih ratio and low Im, providing a very stable performance.
