Thyristors - TRIACs

The L2004F541 is a silicon-based triggerable thyristor (TRIAC). As a component of the Nisselone family of thyristors, the L2004F541 is composed of a 4-layer silicon structure, which enables it to conduct loads in both directions when triggered. The device is typically used to switch large reactive loads at low or medium AC voltage levels.

Application Field

The L2004F541 is designed to handle current levels up to 5 amps in AC-DC switching applications such as motor control, relay drives, solenoid/valve control, lamp control, contactor control and so on. The device is used as a "LOAD-BREAKER" switch, which could handle large current in two directions under the control of microcontroller and trigger signal. The L2004F54 can also be used in induction heating, particularly in stepless single-phase AC thyristor speed regulating system.

Working Principle

The L2004F541 is a four layer thyristor, consisting of an anode, a gate, a cathode and a connective layer. Current can flow through the a-g junction when the applied voltage is high enough and the gate terminal is not triggered. The gate can be used to trigger the thyristor and switch the current to flow from the anode to the cathode. When the gate is triggered and the thyristor is turned on, the current flow can be modulated by varying the gate voltage.

Once the thyristor is switched on, the only way to switch it off again is to reduce the current flow in the anode to the level that won\'t allow to sustain the controlling voltage of the thyristor. This is made by triggering the same gate terminal again with a short (negative) pulse.

The L2004F541 is the ideal choice for applications which require the ability to switch large AC currents with short switching times. The device offers high adempability and low switching losses, making it reliable and suitable for a wide range of applications.
