The L4004F62 is a triac (Thyristor) used to control the flow of AC current. Triacs are bidirectional devices that control the flow of power in both directions. The triac works by using the positive thermal coefficient of the semiconductor junction. In normal operation, a positive cycle of AC is applied to the MTI and MT2 terminals of the triac, which causes the electrons to pass through the base and form a current flow. This flow increases the amount of heat generated. As the temperature increases, the resistance of the base decreases and more electrons are able to pass through it. This in turn increases the base current and causes the device to turn on. The overall effect of the positive thermal coefficient is a decrease in the resistance of the base layer and an increase in the current flow, which effectively controls the amplitude of the AC signals. This process allows the user to control the speed, angular displacement, power factor and current of the circuit with the use of a single device. Additionally, the triac is equipped with an integrated gate, which allows it to switch on very quickly.Conclusion
