The L4974A is a DC-DC switching regulator made by STABIL. This Voltage regulator is a high performance step-down synchronous power converter with PWM control and optimized power components integrated in a single package. It can operate with low ripple input voltage and it is able to provide a low quiescent current that ensures a very low stand-by power dissipation. This voltage regulator can drive up to 6A continuous output current, with the possibility of reaching up to 20A peak output current. Moreover, it has an onboard integrated MOSFET transistor, allowing to control power supply that ranges from 4.5V to 30V.
This voltage regulator can use different control modes, such as PFM mode, PWM mode and the innovative AYPWMR mode. In the first two modes, the output voltage is obtained by two operations, when the current is in the first one, it is directed by the PWM controller and error amplifier, while in the second case, it is manipulated by the external power MOS transistor and the error amplifier. The AYPWMR mode has become an innovative, integrated system that combines the efficiency of Pulse-Frequency Modulation (PFM) with the improved transient and accuracy of Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM). This system will conventionally reduce the switching losses by switching in an additional lower duty cycle overlap cycle operation.
