The L6235D013TR is an integrated power module specifically designed for automotive cooling fans. It is part of the growing family of Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMICs) and Motor Drivers, Controllers (MDCs). The module integrates power MOSFETs and allows current control and current sensing in a fully integrated package.The L6235D013TR allows users to provide the fan current control while sensing the current at the same time. This module has the ability to accurately set current limits and detect any faults during operation. The L6235D013TR also provides a high-voltage tolerant structure for over-voltage protection as well as short-circuit and thermal protection.The L6235D013TR can operate at a maximum duty cycle of 100%. This means the fan can be operated at its maximum speed for extended periods of time without overheating or damaging the motor or controller. With its large fan-drive capability, this module is well suited for applications requiring dynamic fan control such as automotive cooling fan applications or PWM applications.The L6235D013TR offers current limit, over-temperature, overtemperature throttle and fault output which helps protect the motor and controller from damage due to overcurrent, overtemperature or short circuit. The module also allows users to disable and enable the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) output. It has the capability to switch at frequencies up to 1 MHz and operates with a power supply ranging from 5V to 40V.The working principle of the L6235D013TR is based on a two-phase driver design which works similar to a bridge rectifier. The two phases of the driver are connected in parallel to the motor which enables current flow in both directions. The driver contains two MOSFETs which are connected to the output stages. The MOSFETs are driven by voltage pulses generated by the integrated circuit.When the current sensing pin is activated, the module can operate in the current limit or over-temperature protection mode. In current limit mode, the circuit will continually monitor the fan current and adjust the level at which the driver is switched off until a predefined limit has been reached. When in over-temperature protection mode, the module will reduce the fan current when the temperature exceeds a predefined limit and resume normal operation when the temperature lowers again.The L6235D013TR is a versatile and reliable integrated power and current control module which is ideally suited for automotive cooling applications. It offers a high-voltage tolerant structure, current sensing capability and fault output, giving the user greater control and reliability over the fan operation. This makes it the perfect choice for applications requiring reliable and dynamic fan control.
