The L6928D013TR is a positive adjustable and fixed output three-terminal switching regulator, which provides high efficiency and excellent performance. It is ideally suited for the 5V, 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.5V and 1V voltage systems, and it integrate all important features for regulating and controlling multiple voltage systems in one chip. The regulator integrates a full set of power-saving features, including input hysteresis, PWM diming control and an adjustable frequency oscillator, and it provides current limiting protection for the inrush current.

Application Field

The L6928D013TR regulator is ideal for applications requiring a single chip to control multiple voltage systems. Such as CPU and chipset of 3V/2.5V/1.5V/1V power rail of PC motherboards, mobile phones, digital cameras, game consoles and other consumer products that require multiple voltage levels.The regulator is also suitable for power supplies in industrial, instrumentation, and telecommunications application.

Working Principle

The L6928D013TR works by pulse width modulation (PWM) control. In this type of control, the regulator continuously modulates the duty cycle of the output switch with a reference signal determined by the control loop. When the output switch is off, the voltage output is also off and when the output switch is on, the output is charging or discharging at a DC level.

The regulator consists of three main blocks; the feedback and control block, the voltage reference block, and the PWM driver block. The feedback and control block regulates the output voltage by comparing the feedback voltage from the output voltagePin to its own internal reference voltage. Any difference between the two values is amplified and used to modulate the PWM driver to maintain the desired output voltage.

The voltage reference block supplies a voltage referenceinput to the feedback and control block. The reference value is regulated through the implementation of an adjustable closed loop. The closed loop uses an external reference voltage of 5V, 10V and 20V with output voltage range of ±2%, ±1% and ±0.5% respectively.

The PWM driver block receives a control signal from the feedback and control block and determines when to turn on and off the output switch to regulate the output voltage. Allowing for finer control of both the on and off times of the output switch, the regulator also employs an adjustable frequency oscillator, which can be altered to provide higher accuracy.

The adjustable frequency oscillator can be adjusted via the PwrRise and PwrFall pins for the rise and fall times, respectively. Additionally, the regulator contains an input hysteresis circuit to help reduce power consumption. This hysteresis circuit can be adjusted to keep the output switch on or off for a longer duration, thereby decreasing power consumption.

The L6928D013TR is also equipped with current limiting protection. This feature helps to protect the output from any inrush current caused by the sudden turn-on of the output switch.
