L6935TR Application Field and Working Principle
PMIC stands for Power Management Integrated Circuits, which are designed to enable energy-efficient power conversion for analogue, digital and mixed-signal systems. PMICs provide an integrated solution for managing most of the power rails required by a system, from the main supply to the high-speed communication interfaces. Voltage Regulators are a type of PMIC, and they are further classified into linear and switch-mode regulators. The L6935TR is a monolithic linear regulator with a three-terminal adjustable output voltage. It is based on a charge pump architecture and implemented using STMicroelectronics’ proprietary low-voltage and low-power BCD technology. The L6935TR is designed to provide stable output and offer excellent electrical performance, in terms of line and load regulation, Current Limitation, Thermal Shutdown and Over-Voltage Protection.Application Fields
The L6935TR can be widely used in personal electronic devices, computers and consumer electronic equipment such as mobile phones, digital cameras, GPS devices, etc. This device is suitable for applications where low-noise, low-ripple and low-dropout performance is necessary, such as powering high-speed processors, memories and low-voltage components. It is also well-suited for applications that require high efficiency and long life, such as in automotive and industrial systems.Features and Benefits
The L6935TR is designed for use as a general-purpose voltage regulator for powering microprocessors, memories and other low-voltage components. It offers an output current of up to 1A and features low-noise, low-ripple and low-dropout performance, making it an ideal solution for applications requiring tight regulation accuracy around 3.3V and 5V.The L6935TR also features an adjustable output voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V, and its low-noise EN mode allows the device to be enabled and disabled through logic HIGH/LOW signals. This feature is suitable for applications which require frequent disable/enable operations, such as portables and automotive applications.Other features of the L6935TR include low quiescent current for reduced power dissipation, over-voltage protection, current-limiting protection, and thermal shutdown. Its soft-start feature further helps to minimize output voltage overshoot during start up.Working Principle
The L6935TR is based on a charge pump architecture and is implemented using STMicroelectronics’ proprietary low-voltage and low-power BCD technology. It utilizes a pair of p-channel and two n-channel power MOSFETs for regulating the output voltage. The output voltage of the L6935TR is regulated using a feedback loop composed of an error amplifier, a voltage reference and a voltage divider (or potential divider). The error amplifier compares the output voltage with a reference voltage, and the difference between them is then amplified. The output of the error amplifier is used to drive the gates of the power MOSFETs, thereby controlling the amount of current passed through them and regulating the output voltage. As the output voltage of the L6935TR increases, the error amplifier commands the gates of the power MOSFETs to reduce the amount of current allowed to flow through them, thereby preventing the output voltage from exceeding the set limit. Similarly, as the output voltage decreases, the error amplifier commands the gates of the MOSFETs to increase the amount of current allowed to flow through them, raising the output voltage back to the desired level. The L6935TR also features over-voltage protection, current-limiting protection, and thermal shutdown. The over-voltage protection feature prevents excessive output voltage from damaging the circuitry, while the current-limiting protection prevents excessive current from being drawn from the power source. The thermal shutdown feature triggers when the temperature of the chip goes beyond the maximum safe operating temperature. Conclusion
The L6935TR is a linear regulator with a charge pump architecture that offers an excellent electrical performance, in terms of line and load regulation, Current Limitation, Thermal Shutdown, and Over-Voltage Protection. It is suitable for applications requiring low-noise, low-ripple and low-dropout performance, such as powering high-speed processors, memories and low-voltage components. The L6935TR also features low quiescent current for reduced power dissipation, adjustable output voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V, and a low-noise EN mode for applications requiring frequent disable/enable operations. In addition, its working principle is based on the comparison between the output voltage and a reference voltage, which is then amplified and used to drive the gates of power MOSFETs. All these features make the L6935TR an ideal solution for a wide range of applications. The specific data is subject to PDF, and the above content is for reference
