Today, January 8th, 2021, LED7706TR is one of the most attractive Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) solutions for light-emitting diode (LED) drivers. This PMIC is designed for low-voltage lighting systems of up to 5 channels independently. Application Field

The LED7706TR enables customers to avoid the complexity of implementing a discrete dc-dc converter solution that would not be possible in limited space applications. This PMIC is suitable for commercial, industrial and residential lighting applications, such as lamps, chandeliers, as well as downlights, ceiling/wall mounted lights, and strip lanterns.

The LED7706TR PMIC is able to provide improved performance in display lighting applications, such as LED TV edge-lighting, LED active matrix on-cell backlighting, and LED monitor/notebook backlighting. It also supports the lighting of high-end LCD displays for machine vision, including phablets, gaming consoles, and high-end cameras.

Working Principle

The LED7706TR is a current- and voltage-mode controller, specifically designed for lamp applications. It not only has a built-in error amplifier for output voltage regulation, but also contains state-of-the-art functions, including soft-start, output voltage tracking, and LED current control. The LED7706TR can provide 5 channels of LED drivers, supporting up to 2 channels at 24V, and up to 1 channel at 48V, coupled with other drivers down to 10V.

LED7706TR has the ability to monitor the output voltage and execute a soft-start procedure. Once the soft-start is initiated, the output voltage is ramped up with a slewing rate of 1.0V/ms to prevent output transient. It also features a voltage-driven loop that maintains constant output voltage. The output voltage is monitored continuously and the regulation error amplifier adjusts the peak current of the average current source.

The LED7706TR also provides a convenient programmable output current setting by a single resistor. With the use of an external resistor, it is easy to set the desired current level. The resistors are placed directly on the PCB, and can be accurately adjusted depending on the characteristics of the LEDs being used.

Finally, the LED7706TR has an useful over-temperature protection feature. When the IC detects a temperature that is exceeding a certain threshold, the IC will switch into a protection mode and temporarily soft-start will be disabled. When the oscillator detects the chip is at a safe temperature, the device will resume normal operation.
