Introduction
LF25ABPT-TR is a linear low-dropout (LDO) regulator, which is designed for providing tightly regulated outputs with very low noise, low quiescent current, and excellent transient response. It is a precision three-terminal positive voltage regulator which functions as a low-dropout linear regulator in a wide input voltage range, providing output voltage accuracy and fast transient response to loads perturbations. It includes several features such as a P-channel pass device, a bandgap reference, an Error Amplifier and currents sources for output current.Application Fields
LF25ABPT-TR is used in a wide variety of applications, such as personal computers, consumer electronics, automotive, telecommunications, and industrial applications. It is suitable for video equipment, audio equipment, cellular phones, and other portable consumer products. LF25ABPT-TR feature an input voltage range of 4.75V to 20.0V and output voltage range of 0.8V to 13.2V. It includes a P-channel pass device to provide smooth operation, adjustable output voltage capability, single supply operation, low dropout operation, low output noise and excellent ripple rejection capability. Other features include a bandgap reference, current limit, short circuit protection, reverse bias protection, thermal shutdown and over current protection.Working Principle
LF25ABPT-TR consists of a P-channel MOSFET pass device, an internal low dropout linear regulator, an adjustable current limit, short-circuit protection, over Current Protection and thermal shutdown. The regulator uses a P-channel MOSFET pass device to regulate the output voltage, which is determined by an external resistor divider. The Error Amplifier is connected to a feedback resistor to form a voltage divider that is used to sense output voltage. The Error Amplifier compares this voltage with the reference voltage, and adjusts current through the pass device corresponding to difference between the two voltages.The control loop, consisting of the Error Amplifier, the pass device, a PNP transistor and the error current source, provides the voltage regulation and is responsible for fast transients, as well as long-term regulation. The PNP transistor reduces the power dissipation of the pass device. The constant current of the error current source drives the Error Amplifier input, ensuring linear operation of the regulator.The reference voltage is an on-chip bandgap reference circuit which provides a stable regulated voltage independent of the transistor process and temperature variations. The reference has a starting up current less than 300uA, and the load regulation is typically 0.5mV from no load to full load.Conclusion
