LF90CV application field and working principleThe LF90CV is a low dropout linear voltage regulator with a wide range of applications. Using current mode control, the LF90CV is capable of providing precision output regulation over a wide input/output voltage range and load current. The LF90CV offers high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) and low output noise to support precision low output voltages over a wide operating range and temperature.The primary application field of the LF90CV is in automotive systems and other harsh environments, due to its high reliability and capability to operate both in extreme ambient temperatures (–40 °C up to 200 °C) and withstand high voltage transients. The regulator is also suitable for use in consumer, communication and industrial applications, as it allows continuous current up to 1A and provides low dropout operation down to 0.1V.The LF90CV is designed such that it operates in corridor mode to obtain low dropout performance and maintain its PSRR over a wide load current and input voltage range. In this mode, the voltage control mechanism is an external resistor divider. The applied voltage across the LF90CV sets the output voltage of the regulator which does not require current sense elements to ensure proper regulation. The device also limits its own input current to maintain good transient for supply with high ESR.The linear voltage regulation of the LF90CV is based on current mode control, a type of control mechanism used to regulate an output voltage of a switching regulator. The input current of the converter is sensed and compared to a reference voltage. If the current sensing voltage is greater the reference voltage, a feedback loop is closed and the switching frequency is reduced to lessen the output power. If the current sensing voltage is less the reference voltage, a feedback loop is closed and the switching frequency is increased to increase the output power.The LF90CV offers low output noise, a high PSRR, and a wide voltage/current range to maximize performance. It is a great choice for automotive and other harsh environments, consumer and communication applications, and industrial applications.
