Application Field
The LLS2C561MELZ provides substantial capacitance for a range of applications in automotive, industrial appliances, consumer electronics, etc. It is especially suitable for DC-link, DC power, decoupling, stability, filtering and many other applications.
LLS2C561MELZ is designed to provide high capacitance in a miniature surface mount package. It is AEC–Q200 qualified, compliant to the RoHS Directive, and halogen free, making it 100 percent compatible for use in automotive, industrial and consumer electronics applications.
Working Principle
Based on the conventional aluminum electrolytic capacitor (AEC) design, the LLS2C561MELZ has a cylindrical shaped construction. The capacitor design utilizes a conformal-coated aluminum anode that is rolled and insert-potted into a cylindrical shaped epoxy resin body.
At the bottom side of the cylindrical case, a riveted stainless steel bottom closure is used to hold the anode element together and keep electrical isolation between the anode and casing. The cathodic current is routed through this metallic bottom bottom closure and current limiting resistors.
The other side of the anode is connected to one electrode of the capacitor. A dielectric is formed by the anode and cylindrical case. The cathode is attached to the second electrode of the capacitor.
During operation, the electric current is produced by the chemical reaction of electrolyte with the anode material, formed a dielectric layer between the two electrodes of the capacitor. This dielectric will be polarized when connecting to a voltage, which will increase the capacitance of the device. This reaction of a metals leads to the reduction of the capacitance and energy density of the capacitor.
The LLS2C561MELZ utilizes a low-leakage electrolyte which minimizes the contact and leakage current between the two electrodes. This provides excellent stability, lower losses and very low equivalent series resistance (ESR), which are the key features of the device.
In conclusion, the LLS2C561MELZ is an aluminum electrolytic capacitor with high capacitance and reliable performance.
