• Working Principle

The working principle of aluminum electrolytic capacitors is based on electrolysis. Electrolysis happens when electricity passes through a wet solution such as salt water. The electrolyte is composed of an aluminum foil and an Etched metal foil which acts as a cathode and an anode, respectively. When the capacitor is charged, the metal of the cathode attracts the electrons of the anode and is stored on the metal surface. When the capacitor is discharged, the metal of the anode releases the stored electrons to the cathode, creating a current. The capacitor stores electrical energy in the form of 1.2V and up to 35V depending on its type.
