LM124D Application Field and Working Principle
The LM124D Series is a family of high-performance, single-supply, low power, quad operational amplifiers developed by Texas Instruments. This device consists of four independent, internally frequency compensated high gain operational amplifiers which were designed specifically to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of voltages. The LM124D simplifies designs that would otherwise require two separate power supplies. The voltage range for the power supply can easily cover the range from ±2.5V to ±32V, or a single positive or negative supply of up to 32V.
The LM124D has several features which make it ideal for use in a wide range of applications including instrumentation amps, strain gauge amplifiers, buffered integrators/differentiators, sample and hold circuits and waveform generators. It has a strong input stage yielding very low offset voltage, a gain bandwidth product of 1MHz with a single supply, and has a very high open-loop gain of at least 200V/mV for gains of 10 or more. These features make the LM124D an ideal choice for a variety of applications.
Working Principle of LM124D
The LM124D features a high input impedance of up to 500KΩ, eliminating the need for buffering the inputs. It has excellent gain linearity (1/2LSB) via laser trimming as well as a wide bandwidth of 1 MHz for low current draw (1.5mA per amplifier). The input stage is designed to protect the amplifier from transients on the supply lines. The output stage provides the capability to drive up to 600Ω into a capacitive load of up to 17pF with very low distortion levels.
The output stage can also be easily configured with two equal resistors to make a fully-differential output voltage. The differential output can also be connected directly to an ADC or a digital system to be used as a programmable gain amplifier. The LM124D is a full-featured amplifier with a low power dissipation of 1.6mA at ±25V and a wide operating temperature range of -40℃ to +85℃.
Applications of LM124D
