The LM21215A-1EVM/NOPB is one of a family of high performance evaluation boards for DC/DC and AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS that are designed to evaluate Texas Instruments portfolio of switch-mode power conversion ICs. The LM21215A-1EVM/NOPB is graded to support a wide range of power conversion applications.
This evaluation board\'s primary application fields are high performance, low cost, low noise, high precision, low stand-by power and faster transient response with the advantage of reduced component count. The LM21215A-1EVM/NOPB is designed to be an entry-level evaluation board for comprehensive evaluation of the LM21216A-Q1 high performance DC/DC converter IC. The board offers a full 100 W stackable performance range from 3.3 V to 24 V, suitable for a wide variety of power supply designs.
At the heart of the circuit is the LM21216A-Q1 DC/DC converter IC which is a synchronous-rectified switch mode power supply (SMPS) nominal rated controller. It combines an upgraded voltage mode controller, protected linear drivers and enhanced frequency synchronization even in no load condition. The circuit is also provided with an integrated overvoltage protection and programmable soft start feature, both of which can be used to optimize the system’s performance.
The LM21215A-1EVM/NOPB provides an adjustable output range with a regulated output set point. This wide range enables the optimized power design to support a variety of functions. In addition, it provides a range of load line options so that the actual operating point of the device can be matched to the intended power application.
The differential input, low noise output and improved conversion efficiency are the key advantages of this evaluation board. The efficiency is determined by the switching frequency of the IC and the output voltage, which can be adjusted within a wide range. With proper optimization, the efficiency of the circuit can be improved.
To guard against catastrophic failure, the circuit is equipped with a self-resetting internal current limit. Even with its robust construction it is advisable to use only qualified personnel to set up the board. The LM21215A-1EVM/NOPB also features reverse polarity protection, foldback current-limit protection and soft-start current limit protection when configured correctly.
The LM21215A-1EVM/NOPB board can be easily configured to support a number of different application fields, such as low voltage drives, 5V/12V isolated power supplies and more. It is suitable for use in a wide range of applications where output voltage is adjusted or a load which varies considerably is present. The board offers resistance to trans-ients and system noise while achieving high efficiency. The evaluation board is an ideal evaluation and verification platform for new DC/DC converter designs.
