LM26420XMHEVAL/NOPB is an evaluation board that can be used to power DC/DC or AC/DC (off-line) SMPS (switched-mode power supplies). This evaluation board can be used to verify the electrical characteristics of a wide range of power supply applications. It is capable of driving 5A of peak current, and offers a wide range of input voltages, from 2.7V to 30V.The LM26420XMHEVAL/NOPB includes a patented constant-current and frequency-controlled SMPS controller, the LM26420. The LM26420 is a highly flexible and universal controller for power supplies. It can be used to design both simple and complex power supplies. The LM26420 offers best-in-class performance with high efficiency, low input current, less output voltage ripple, and less switching noise.The LM26420XMHEVAL/NOPB contains all the components necessary for a complete evaluation of the LM26420. It is optimized for testing power supplies ranging from 30Vin to 12Vout. The evaluation board also includes a low-side current sense and over-current, over-voltage, and EMI protection features, as well as a surface mount technology inductor, a low-resistance MOSFET, and an output rectifier.The evaluation board can be easily configured to match the application requirement. The LM26420XMHEVAL/NOPB includes an on-board current limit set resistor, frequency set resistor, and a ‘start of side’ timing resistor. These components provide the flexibility to customize the controller operation to meet the application needs.The operational principle for the LM26420XMHEVAL/NOPB is fairly simple. When power is first applied, the on-board logic circuitry generates the required reset signals to the controller. Then, the controller monitors the current sense signal from the output power stage and modulates the output voltage in response. This process is called “constant-current and frequency-controlled” operation. The LM26420XMHEVAL/NOPB allows the designer to adjust the controller parameters to optimize the power supply performance for the particular application.The LM26420XMHEVAL/NOPB also includes a ‘start of side’ feature. This feature is used to optimize the start-up requirement of the power supply. The start-up period is the time between the initiation of the switch on and the indication at the output stage of regulation. This feature is particularly useful for applications with high power consumption and short start-up times.In addition, the LM26420XMHEVAL/NOPB also contains an EMI feature. This feature allows the designer to reduce the amount of electromagnetic interference generated by the controller. The LM26420XMHEVAL/NOPB evaluation board makes it easy to evaluate the controller and optimise the power supply performance for the target application.The LM26420XMHEVAL/NOPB allows the designer to create a highly efficient and low EMI switched-mode power supply for various DC/DC or AC/DC (off-line) applications.
