The LM26420YMH/NOPB is a high-efficiency, high-performance DC-DC switching regulator with integrated FETs and VR channel that enables an output voltage as low as 0.75V. The LM26420YMH/NOPB is designed for applications requiring high output currents and is optimized for space-constrained designs. With a single-stage power stage and integrated MOSFETs, the LM26420YMH/NOPB reduces external component count and board space utilization making it easier for system design and layout. With an operating frequency of up to 800kHz, the LM26420YMH/NOPB is capable of delivering up to 10A peak output current.

Working Principle

The LM26420YMH/NOPB features a single-stage power path with an advanced voltage regulation technology based on integrated MOSFETs and a low voltage voltage regulator (LVVR) channel. The integrated MOSFETs reduce external components and enable load current sharing across the output. The LVVR reduces the output voltage ripple and noise and also helps improve efficiency by enabling an output voltage as low as 0.75V. The device has integrated thermal shutdown and soft start functions that offer protection from thermal overstresses and current inrush.

The LM26420YMH/NOPB operates by regulating the switch output voltage to a precise reference voltage. The output voltage is regulated by varying the duty cycles of the integrated MOSFETs at an optimized switching frequency. The switch output is sensed and compared with the output voltage of a bandgap reference. The voltage comparison results control the PWM comparator output and in turn the duty cycle of the switching MOSFETs.

The LM26420YMH/NOPB is also provided with an integrated spread spectrum feature, which reduces the output voltage ripple and noise and also provides silent and smooth operation. The spread spectrum is established by modulating the switching frequency and adjusting the on-time of the MOSFETs.
