Working Principle

The LM2676SX-ADJ/NOPB utilises a synchronous rectification architecture with N-channel MOSFETs to achieve a high efficiency. The chip operates in two modes: Burst Mode (BM) and Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM). Switching frequency is adjustable between 150 kHz and 1 MHz.In Burst Mode (BM) operation, when the output voltage drops below the regulation threshold, the IC starts to switch the lower MOSFET at a fixed frequency and duty cycle. When it reaches its maximum duty cycle, the IC automatically switches to PFM operation to keep the output voltage below the under-voltage threshold. This mode maximises efficiency by providing the lowest output voltage with minimal switching losses.In Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) operation, the control circuitry monitors the output voltage and adjusts the MOSFET switching frequency accordingly. When the output voltage drops, the switching frequency is increased to maintain the regulation threshold. Similarly, when the output voltage rises, the switching frequency is lowered to remain within the regulation threshold.
