LM27762EVM Application Field and Working Principle

The LM27762EVMA is an advanced evaluation module (EVM) used to evaluate Texas Instruments’ (TI) LM27762 high-efficiency, low-power isolated flyback dc-dc converter. The LM27762EVM application field depends on the TI LM27762 which energizes low-power electronic systems where reduction of system power loss, noise, size, and weight is desirable. This highly integrated, two-stage (doubler/flyback), AC-DC power-converter family is well suited for applications in isolated 12V systems.

The LM27762EVMA eliminates the need for many of the comprehensive board-level tests, including in-circuit performance testing and load/transient characterization, that are typically required to evaluate dc-dc converter performance. The LM27762EVM is a complete power-supply system that provides an automated test bench. The EVM implementation of the device provides a platform for users to quickly configure specific operating parameters as well as predict and evaluate the converter’s performance under various scenarios.

The LM27762EVM provides the following operating points: +8V, +12V, +15V, and +21V at up to 5A output current and a maximum output power of 42W. These are available simply by adjusting the feedback resistor. The unit is built to the efficiency requirements of the LM27762 and evaluated to the parameters described in the LM27762 data sheet.

The LM27762EVM utilizes a non-isolated flyback topology with an integrated primary-side synchronous rectifier. The LM27762EVM evaluation board is a plug-in solution which includes a free-running resonant half bridge driver and an integrated true-on-time line synchronization signal. This is enabled via two integrated gate driver power MOSFETs and a collection of passive components for voltage and current sensing.
