The LM3103EVAL is an evaluation board designed for DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) switching mode power supply (SMPS) applications. This evaluation board is specifically designed to evaluate and demonstrate the LM3103 CCM/DCM resonant controller. CCM (Continuous Conduction Mode) is a type of PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) in which the inductor current never drops to zero, meaning that the output current is always continuous, while DCM (Discontinuous Conduction Mode)is a type of PWM in which the inductor current passes through zero during the switching period.
The LM3103EVAL evaluation board simplifies the evaluation of the LM3103CCM/DCM resonant controller by allowing the user to quickly setup, tune and evaluate the power system performance. The evaluative board is capable of generating an isolated output or a non-isolated output, a flyback topology with a step-up transformer according to the requirements. The evaluation board supports input voltages from 0-550VAC, and up to 400W output power. It also features adjustable over-temperature protection, adjustable power-good delay, adjustable frequency up to 500 kHz, and a wide range of output voltage and current settings.
The evaluation board is also equipped with an advanced GUI (graphical user interface) that can be used to control and monitor the operation of the device. The GUI’s user-friendly interface allows the user to easily set up the board without the need of a special software or programming skills. The GUI also provides a convenient way to adjust system parameters, connect to test and monitoring equipment, and display performance data in real-time.
The LM3103EVAL Evaluation Board’s working principle is based on the LM3103 CCM/DCM Resonant Controller. The controller takes an input voltage and steps it up to a higher voltage level, providing either isolated or non-isolated output depending on the setup. The controller switches on and off at a high rate to maintain the desired voltage and current output. The resonant frequency of the controller is adjusted by the user to optimize power conversion efficiency.
The evaluation board is designed to provide easy access to all device features. It includes on-board sensing and protection features that can be used to ensure proper operation and to prevent damage to the device.
