The LM317AMDTX/NOPB is an advanced linear voltage regulator with an adjustable output from 1.2 to 37V with up to 1.5A output current. Working Principle
LM317AMDTX/NOPB operates using a controlling principle that is based on classic linear regulator methods. The output voltage is regulated by using a reference voltage and comparing it with a voltage divider set to the desired output voltage. The voltage divider is created using two external resistors and a bypass capacitor. The current sense voltage is constantly monitored and the error amplifier tries to equalize both voltages. This results in an output voltage that is constant and regulated.
The adjustable output voltage of the LM317AMDTX/NOPB can be set by two resistors. The formula used can give an output voltage of: Vout = 1.25V*(1+R2/R1) . Utilizing this adjustable output allows the designer to produce different voltages from a wide range of values from 1.2-37V. The LM317AMDTX/NOPB also features dual basic protection features to protect the regulator from overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, reverse current, and overtemperature.
