The LM3150-500EVAL/NOPB is an evaluation board for DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-line) SMPS. This board facilitates the evaluation and design of power supply solutions with the Texas Instruments’ LM3150-500 Current Mode SIMPLE SWITCHER® Buck/Boost Hybrid Switching Regulator. The board is powered by an input voltage between 8.0V and 45V and can be operated in either DC/DC or AC/DC conversion mode. The LM3150-500EVAL/NOPB offers the flexibility of 7 basic topologies that can be occupied to access key features of current mode control: Fixed Frequency Operation, Pulse-by-Pulse Current Limiting, Synchronous Rectification, and others.The LM3150-500EVAL/NOPB is a compact board providing 50A continuous output current and is suitable for other applications such as USB battery charging, Intelligent lighting, White Goods, Portable audio, etc. This evaluation board is built with careful consideration of component placement ensuring efficient thermal dissipation, and minimizing any impacts on overall system EMI. With this evaluation board, time and cost for designing switching power supplies can be reduced as all components necessary for each application are included on the board and are design verified.In its most basic mode of operation, the LM3150-500EVAL/NOPB can operate as a buck-boost converter which regulates the output voltage across two separate feedback leads. The device utilizes two feedback loops, one regulating the maximum output voltage and the other for regulating the current limit of the output. The on-board control circuitry is implemented with various filter combinations to facilitate the wide range of adjustable output voltages, currents, and frequencies. This evaluation board also comes with external control pins to enable dynamic programming of the output voltage, current, and frequency.Other features of the LM3150-500EVAL/NOPB include a power-on reset circuit with adjustable output voltage levels, synchronous rectification for high output voltage levels, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and programmable soft start. The board also supports the optional implementation of overvoltage protection.The board is designed to meet safety specifications such as UL60950-1and EN61010- 3-2 (overvoltage category 2). It also features an on-board power switch that can be enabled or disabled as required by the user. The board is constructed with standard ten-layer FR4 and is designed to fit onto a standard 2”x4” single-sided board.The LM3150-500EVAL/NOPB board is able to provide a high efficiency solution with its switching frequency of up to 500KHz and output power suitability of up to 150W (in DC/DC buck-boost mode). Furthermore, the board supports synchronous rectification and can draw up to 72A of output current depending on the external components selected. The LM3150-500EVAL/NOPB can be used in a variety of applications such as solar energy generation, power supplies, and battery management systems. It is a reliable design solution for wide input and output voltage ranges and is also suitable for multi-rail applications and voltage tracking solutions.
