LM337H is a kind of three-terminal adjustable negative voltage regulator. This device is capable of supplying in excess of 1A output current and with the addition of an external resistor, it can be set to any voltage between about -1.2V and -37V. This device is intended for use in applications where negative output voltages of currents up to 1A are needed.With the ability to accurately regulate the voltage of the output load, LM337H is widely used in various areas, such as, power supply, battery powered equipment, smoke detectors, automotive, microcontroller and microprocessor-based systems, industrial control, telecommunications and such.The working principle of LM337H is very simple. This device consists of three pins - output, adjust, and ground. It is connected to the voltage source through the adjust pin and ground. The output provides a stable negative voltage under the condition of either increasing or decreasing the input. When the current that flows through the adjust pin is increased, the voltage at the output is decreased. On the other hand, when the current that flows through the adjust pin decreases, the voltage at the output is increased.To regulate the output voltage of the LM337H, a resistive divider should be used between the output and the adjust pin of the device. The resistors of the network are chosen to divide the applied load voltage by a factor which provides the desired output voltage. It is important to select the resistors of the divider network carefully because the output voltage can be very sensitive to the values selected.The common applications for the LM337H are in devices like thermostats, air conditioners, and other temperature-controlled systems. Adjustable power supplies, DC-DC converters, LED driver circuits, and battery chargers are other common uses for this device.The LM337H provides very high), stable output voltage, accurate output current regulation, low dropout voltage, low quiescent current (i.e. current consumed when there is no load), thermal stability, high immunity to input transients, high maximum current, zener-like protection, line transient protection, and wide range of operating temperature.
