The LM339N is the highest precision of the low offset quad-comparator ICs. This IC continuously compares two different voltage levels, and outputs an appropriate logic state when they are equal or un-equal. It has many applications such as simple off/on control, switching regulators, protections circuits, specialized LED control logic circuits, and window comparators.

The LM339N belongs to the Linear - Comparators classification. This type of comparators are widely used to compare two analog signals and to output a logic state (High or Low) based on the comparison result.

The LM339N uses a high input impedance differential amplifier to compare the two input voltages, and contains four independent comparators in a single package. The LM339N has many features like low power dissipation, high gain bandwidth product, low input bias current and offset current, wide range of input voltage, and good noise rejection.

One of the main characteristics of the LM339N is its low offset voltage. Usually, the offset voltage of a comparator is the same as the input voltage when the output of the comparator is logically LOW, but the LM339N has an extremely low offset voltage of 1mV (typical). The low offset voltage enables the LM339N to detect small differences in input voltages. This capability makes it a versatile device for use in many applications.
