Evaluation boards, also known as system boards, are electrical test and development tools used to bring life to an electronic system\'s design. They provide the necessary connections and a user interface for testing the system\'s operation and features. The LM3401EVAL/NOPB is an LED driver evaluation board with a wide range of applications and is ideal for LED lighting and LED driver development.
The LM3401EVAL/NOPB contains a single-channel LED driver IC with an integrated 1-MHz synchronous buck converter and low RDS(ON) MOSFET. The IC is designed to deliver a constant current to a single LED channel, with a single input and adjust PINs to provide programmable output current. This allows designers to quickly adjust the output current range, while providing flexibility in the input voltage range and efficiency.
The LM3401EVAL/NOPB application field and working principle can be divided into three parts: the electrical characteristics, physiology and programming.
Electrical Characteristics
The LM3401EVAL/NOPB has a wide input voltage range (5V to 42V) and can support up to 6A continuous output current. Its built-in protective features include over-current, over-temperature, and over-voltage protection. The output voltage is adjustable up to 4V. Physiology
The LM3401EVAL/NOPB has a high-side current sense architecture driven by the internal Feedback (FB) input, using a current sensing resistor. The output current is monitored by an RB_CURRENT sense resistor, which is connected on the low side of the LED load. While the LM3401EVAL/NOPB can reach an efficiency of up to 92%, the board allows for additional output current regulation via a slower current regulation voltage comparator.
Programming
The LM3401EVAL/NOPB evaluation board comes with a microcontroller (MCU) with a 16-bit processor and 32 Kbytes of flash memory, which performs the control of the LED driver using C-based code. The control program that sends the PWM control signal to the LED driver consists of a number of user-programmable parameters which can be easily set using a PC connection.
The LM3401EVAL/NOPB is ideal for use in light engines, high power LED systems, automotive lighting and any situation where a wide range of output currents up to 6A is required. Its highly efficient design provides greater power savings, and its programmable features provide the flexibility to custom-fit the application’s requirements.
