The LM3402HVMM is a highly integrated, high voltage,1.2A constant current buck regulator, primarily intended as a low cost LED driver solution for single-string white or RGB LED applications. The LM3402HVMM reduces system complexity by integrating an internal pre-biased switch, current sensing, and inductor discharge functions. This simplifies the external BOM and reduces the size of the solution, down from typical 36-pins SO to just an 8-pin SO. For a single-string white LED application, the LM3402HVMM requires only three external components. For a color-balanced, high efficiency, true-RGB LED application, the LM3402HVMM requires one inductor and five resistors.

The LM3402HVMM combines several features to ease the design process. It is a low cost LED driver solution that operates in the range of 2.7V to 90V and supports the operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. It is also equipped with an internal discharge MOSFET that reduces the internal turn-on overshoot current and eliminates the need for an external inductor in many single-string applications. In addition, the LM3402HVMM features low Ripple Current Mode control which reduces inductor and capacitor size while providing higher power efficiency compared to traditional linear mode control.

During operation, the LM3402HVMM samples the output voltage offset between the current sense voltage and the reference voltage and adjusts the duty cycle of the switch to maintain the output current.
