Working principle
LM3492HCQMH/NOPB is based on XLRS (External Led Reference System) architecture. It follows a simple connection diagram for configuration and making operation. Two external resistor values are used for setting the LED sinks current and the LED string voltage. The LED sink current is a fixed value from the default and then it is dynamically controlled during the operation, based on the GATE signal.
The voltage across the LED string is constantly monitored and then compared to the reference voltage to adjust the switching frequency or pulse width of the power MOSFET to keep the voltage and the current constant. This constant feedback loop is used to provide precise LED current control and also to protect the LED string from overstress situations.
The dimming process in this device is simple and requires two logic signals to enable and disable the gate signal that is generated to enable the switching of the MOSFET. The dimming range of underdrive and overdrive can be limited to fine tune the power saving and the light output.
