LM431CIZ/NOPB Voltage ReferenceThe LM431CIZ/NOPB is a type of PMIC - Voltage Reference. It is an adjustable precision Zener shunt regulator that has outstanding line of high voltage in a single-package 3-terminal device. The device provides an accurate reference voltage easily set with a single resistor. The stable voltage reference also serves to optimize the line regulation of any power supply up to terminals of 270V/420V/630V/840V and much more. Features The LM431CIZ/NOPB offers great features like the ability to control output voltage with a single external resistor, low dynamic impedance and high output current capability along with improved temperature tracking and low-temperature coefficient. The device has a wide input voltage range of 140V to 335V to provide power supply design flexibility, over-voltage and overload protection, a programmable current limit, and an over-temperature shutdown. The LM431CIZ/NOPB also has a built-in noise filter that provides superior EMI performance. It is also designed to provide excellent performance in applications with high frequency switching power supplies due to its low dynamic impedance and fast transient response. Applications The LM431CIZ/NOPB device is primarily used in power supply designs where the output voltage needs to be accurately set with a single resistor and requires a high output current capability, low dynamic impedance and fast transient response. Examples of applications in which this PMIC - Voltage Reference can be used include AC/DC to DC converters, AC adapters, power distribution units and point-of-load supplies, DC/DC converters, laptop computer power supplies and other power distribution applications.Working Principle The LM431CIZ/NOPB utilizes a Zener shunt regulator topology to accurately provide a voltage reference. When a fixed voltage is applied to the device’s Zener diode, it can accurately produce a constant voltage at the output. The voltage reference has two main components: a precision Zener diode and a voltage divider. The voltage divider is used to adjust the output voltage of the device. By varying the resistance of the voltage divider, the output voltage can be accurately set. The LM431CIZ/NOPB also features a protection circuitry, which is used to provide protection against excessive current and temperature. The protection mechanism utilizes a sense resistor to sense the output voltage and provide over-voltage and overload protection. The over-voltage protection is used to protect the output voltage from exceeding a set level. The overload protection is used to protect against a short circuit in the output stage.
