PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching RegulatorsThe LMR12010XMKX/NOPB is an integrated monolithic high-efficiency, step-down DC-DC switching regulator that is shipped in a small, lead-free, surface-mount package. It has been designed to operate over a wide input voltage range (from 4.5V to 36V) and can provide up to 1.2A output current. The LMR12010XMKX/NOPB integrates an internal power MOSFET switch and provides up to 28mΩ ON-state resistance and up to 1.6μA OFF-state current. It also features a P-channel MOSFET that converts the input voltage to output voltage using pulse-width modulation (PWM).The LMR12010XMKX/NOPB offers outstanding performance, including good line and load transient response, low current consumption, and low noise. It also has excellent efficiency and high output current (1.2A) capabilities. The device is also fully protected, including over-current, over-temperature, and under-voltage lockout (UVLO) protection.The LMR12010XMKX/NOPB is primarily used for providing a regulated, reliable and low-noise power source for a wide range of applications, such as consumer electronics, automotive, industrial and medical, to name a few. It can be used in devices that require a low-noise, regulated power source, ranging from mobile devices, communications systems, consumer electronics, and automotive devices.The LMR12010XMKX/NOPB offers an adjustable output voltage range (up to 36V) from an input voltage range (VIN, 4.5 to 36V). It incorporates an integrated 1.35A switch that allows it to deliver up to 1.2A of output current with excellent efficiency. It also features good line and load transient response, efficient low ripple performance, fast response, and low power consumption.The internal power MOSFET switching regulators in the LMR12010XMKX/NOPB provide an adjustable output voltage and current capability, with fast transient response and excellent efficiency. The device has two separate feedback pins that are used to provide feedback to the internal control circuitry. The output voltage can be adjusted using an external resistor divider, or with an internal voltage reference. The primary feedback pin (FB) is used to adjust the output voltage based on the voltage present at the FB pin. The secondary feedback pin (CS) is used to enable the current-limit feature to protect the device from over-current. The device also includes a power-on reset (POR) function, that ensures safe operation.The working principle of the integrated monolithic high-efficiency, step-down DC-DC switching regulator is through the regulation of voltage, current and temperature. The voltage is regulated by a switch located in the constant current path of the power supply (MOSFET switch). Its duty cycle is regulated by the voltage feedback pins FB and CS. Transistor pulses are used to control the voltage drop across the MOSFET in order to regulate current and voltage. When the current is necessary to produce the desired voltage, the switch stays in conductive mode causing current to flow. When the current drops down to a certain level, the switch goes into off-state, thus preventing excessive current flow.The device can be set to operate in either continuous-conduction mode (CCM), discontinuous-conduction mode (DCM) or active-clamp mode (ACM) allowing greater flexibility in the application. In CCM and DCM, the current in the output inductor is flowing continually, while in ACM, the current in the inductor is active only during the off-time period of device. Overall, the LMR12010XMKX/NOPB is a highly efficient integrated monolithic high-efficiency, step-down DC-DC switching regulator that is suitable for a wide variety of applications. It offers an adjustable output voltage range, an integrated 1.35A switch, good line and load transient response, efficient low ripple performance, fast response, and low power consumption. It is well-suited for applications such as mobile devices, communications systems, consumer electronics, and automotive devices.
