The LMR14050QDPRTQ1 is a controllable step-down DC-DC switch mode regulator designed to drive up to 50W loads. This power module has optimized switching frequencies and DCR sensing to increase efficiency while providing higher current than similar devices. It is a highly integrated DC-DC step-down switching power module that requires few external components to function. As a point of system differentiation, this device includes a programmable GPI to enable additional system level features. Working Principle
The LMR14050QDPRTQ1 DC-DC switch mode regulator operates by controlling a small switch that allows a quick and detailed control of the voltage as input and output. Its small switching frequency and wide duty cycle range allow for the efficient control of the output voltage with a high accuracy. The switching frequency and duty cycle can be programmed by setting the appropriate pins for the regulator.
The device also includes a synchronous rectifier and a pulse width modulation (PWM) controller, for optimal power and efficiency. When input and output voltages are valid, the device will start Step-On operation phase. During this phase, the integrated Power MOSFETs (PMOS) and NMOS will control the reverse recovery current by using DCR and slope compensation features.
Once the power module is in power-up state, the PWM controller synchronously adjusts output voltage via soft start and adjusts the duty cycle to regulate the output current. In order to prevent over-voltage, the device integrates an over voltage protection (OVP) feature. The active over-temperature protection (OTP) feature can be used to shuts down the operation circuit when the temperature exceeds the threshold.
