Texas Instruments\' LMR24210TL/NOPB is a wide input range synchronous buck regulator that serves as an adjustable voltage source for modern DC to DC applications. It features Ti\'s proprietary FET control architecture and an integrated inductor enables high-efficiency operation over a wide input range. The LMR24210TL/NOPB is a synchronous buck regulator that uses a control loop to precisely regulate its output voltage regardless of changes in input voltage, load current, and temperature. Its proprietary FET control architecture allows for a near ideal transition from continuous conduction to discontinuous conduction, resulting in reduced design complexity and improved noise performance. The LMR24210TL/NOPB integrates a high-efficiency synchronous rectifier, which eliminates the need for external rectifier diodes, reducing component count and system cost. On-chip compensation also eliminates any need for external components.
In order to maximize efficiency, the LMR24210TL/NOPB leverages Ti’s synchronous rectifier control architecture. This architecture allows the switching FETs to synchronize with the output voltage, allowing them to turn on and off in a controlled manner. In addition to improved power conversion efficiency, this also allows for controlled in-rush current at startup. The LMR24210TL/NOPB features a low-input current burst mode for under-voltage lockout, further improving efficiency and reducing system power losses.
The LMR24210TL/NOPB also features integrated short circuit protection. The over-current protection circuitry is designed to safely handle continuous overloads of up to 1.6 times the maximum output current. This supports the design of robust converters that can withstand high-current overloads. The LMR24210TL/NOPB also includes an on-chip thermal shutdown circuit to protect the device from overheating.
In addition to its performance characteristics, the LMR24210TL/NOPB also provides tools for system debug and monitoring. The LMR24210TL/NOPB includes an integrated current-sense amplifier circuit that measures the output current of the converter and provides a scaled voltage output. This output can be used to monitor the output current, allowing the user to easily detect any faults or overloads. Additionally, a logic pin can be used to enable/disable the device, allowing the user to place the converter in a standby state.
