The LMX2320TMX is an integrated clock generator and frequency synthesizer from Texas Instruments that is used in a variety of applications. The LMX2320TMX provides low jitter, low power, and high flexibility for clock source applications such as smartphones, tablets, and other portable devices. It is well-suited for applications where cost and size are important, such as in the development of wearable technology.

The LMX2320TMX combines a low-jitter, high-performance clock source with a variety of frequency synthesizers. The integrated frequency synthesizers use several techniques, including Fractional and Integer-N, Direct Digital Synthesis, and Polyphase Synthesizers. These techniques allow for extremely fine-grained and efficient tuning of the clock signals.

The Fractional-N synthesizer section of the LMX2320TMX has an integrated digital-to-analog converter which allows the chip to generate any integer-N frequency within the range of 9 kHz to 15.3 GHz. The on-chip phase detector and divider allow for different tuning and filtering of the output frequency. The frequency output range can be extended to include other frequencies such as 7.2 MHz, 5.4 MHz, 12.4 MHz, and 24.8 MHz.

The Integer-N synthesizer in the LMX2320TMX provides a wide range of output frequencies including from 1 kHz to 10 MHz. The on-chip phase detector and divider allow for different tuning and filtering of the output frequency. This synthesizer can also be used to generate different non-integer frequencines such as 2.4 MHz, 3.2 MHz, and 4.9 MHz.

The Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) section in the LMX 2320TMX provides a wide range of output frequencies including from 9 kHz to 15.3 GHz. It is well-suited for a variety of applications such as frequency conversion and up-conversion of base-band signals. The DDS also allows for fine-grained tuning by allowing users to change the frequency of a signal in 1 Hz steps. This allows for extremely precise frequency control.

The Polyphase Synthesizers in the LMX2320TMX provide a broad range of output frequencies including 9 kHz to 16.3 GHz. This type of synthesizer uses multiple single-phase frequency dividers to produce multiple outputs. This allows for even smaller frequency intervals and greater frequency stability than Fractional-N and Integer-N synthesizers. The synthesis resolution is fixed at 32 kHz in the LMX2320TMX.

In addition to its ability to generate stable and accurate clock signals, the LMX2320TMX includes features that make it well suited for portable and mobile applications. Power consumption is very low compared to other clock sources, and the device can be switched between various low power modes.
